Hello, everyone.

I'm Ken and I'm new to both this forum and to kilts in general. Well, no, that's not precisely correct; I've been lurking on this 'board for about a week and I've been interested in kilts (and tartans) for many years. I even made a great kilt once from some fabric-store plaid - THAT was interesting! (I probably needed another yard or two of material for it to have really worked right.)

For the past month or so my wife has been saying that she thinks I should get a kilt. A modern, casual sort of kilt, that is; and not in a tartan, but something solid. She's seen all the fellows in Utilikilts walking around at the local renaissance festival and thinks that they're quite sharp. At first I shrugged it off as an idle, passing comment, but the third or fourth time she said it I realized that she was serious. That got me thinking about the wearin' o' the kilt and doing some online research. And THAT got me thinking about kilts as everyday wear and about figuring out how to make my own. (As inexpensive as modern kilts are compared to traditional ones, they're still 'expensive' in that they cost more than I have to spend - or than my wife would allow me to spend - on an article of clothing.) I've found the pattern for the X-Kilt here in these forums and now I'm shopping for material to try one out.

Hope to see you all in and about the place!
