If you're wearing a kilt belt, it doesn't much matter whether it's 16 or 13 oz tartan at the waist - the kilt belt doesn't breathe. My band kilt is 16 oz, and we wear our kilts in parades and at competitions all summer, and I find that it's the _kilt hose_, not the kilt, that is the thing that's uncomfortable in hot, humid weather.
