New On This Board
Dear kilted brothers,
I would love to introduce myself, my name is Feike and I'm a dutch citizen living since a year in America, I've been traveling since I was 16 years old on my own all over the world.I toured, played and recorded music which helped me travel all these places.I lived for a while in London and I backpacked in Scotland for instance.
How I got introduced to the kilt was actually because of traveling I saw people wearing it later on I found out the history of my ancestors and that my name is Gaelic and also Scandinavian.
When the Viking conquered Scotland they were ruthless and cruel but St. Columbus kept on sending people to the Island of Iona and from Iona the mnks kept on trying to spread christianity to the Scotts, the Kelts and the Vikings, many monks got murdered though.
Eventually the people started to listen and changed their lives, many Vikings got children en wives and went back to Scandinavia and many stayed, also a part went to Friesland Holland (the scandinavian part of Holland, with their own culture and language) where my mother comes from.
I started wearing kilts on special occassions as the only person in my family, but now I do want to wear kilts more often.I rented these from places.
I need a pattern though so a friend of mine could make at least one for me.
I would love to introduce when I tour in Europe over two weeks that you can wear a kilt in many occassions and casual, do you guys have any idea?how?
In my country Holland we are very aware of trends and fashion but if I want to get a kilt like those these are most of the time very expensive.
