I had a Guinness w/ a friend of mine last friday and delivered his kilt back to him after moving his buckles a touch. I asked him if he had everything for his big day and all he said he needed was a nice sgian dubh. His wedding is Labor Day weekend in Fayetteville Arkansas and I was planning on going. I can fly to Europe cheaper than 4 days in Arkansas, so after some him-hawing I decided he'd have to settle for a new wedding sgian.

I settled on a day/evening convertible sgian. What?---read on.

The raw materials set out. Walrus ivory, moose antler, damascus steel (where'd I put that darn bayleen?)

A little bandsaw work.

All of the pieces.

Route a couple of slots in both scales.

Put tang A in slot B. Glob in some epoxy. Back to the belt and disc sander and buffer and another O'Neille sgian is born.

Here is the Day side.

Here is the evening side.

The shiny bayleen end.

And a couple of the nice slim profile views.

There you have it, the first convertible day/evening O'Neille Sgian.
