Carlisle Airport Wings Day
Although I passed the flight test and written examination for the IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions) Rating about four months ago, today was the first Wings Day since then at our local airport when new Wings are formally awarded. This provided an opportunity to wear my University of Glasgow kilt with the University of Glasgow graduate's tie and I am seen here receiving my Wings from Newby Tait. Newby joined the Royal Air Force during World War II and later as a civilian he had a long career as a Flying Instructor. Even today, despite being over 80, he still conducts Ground School classes at the airport.
Ann and I with one of my fellow fliers. Mike also combines flying with a career in law and is a solicitor-advocate with the English Crown Prosecution Service.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.
