    Thumbs up WPG Hose Review

    Hello, All.

What Price Glory Khaki Kilt Hose Review

I bought these via ebay--the cost, including shipping, was similar to what their own site listed ($20.50,) and it somehow seemed easier to navigate.

I chose parcel post (just $3) and paid on Oct 2. They were not shipped for several days but I since the website had cautioned that they were out of the store at that time I expected a wait. So no worries. They arrived today, nine days later (including a Sunday and a postal holiday.)

The ribbed body of the sock is substantial enough, it feels roughly analogous to my Lochcarron wool hose. They were only available in two sizes, so I chose medium and plan to "fine tune" them by shaping on their first wash to better accommodate my feet and ankles. My calves are 17 1/2 inches at their widest. I'm not sure the beefy turnover would accommodate really large calves, not in size medium, at least. They smell slightly of...not sure what. Not sheep...made in India so who knows what is setting the dye there. But it's not overpowering as some of the Bridgedales can be.

The flat knit beefy turnover at the top reminds me of all those old WWII comic books I read as a kid. African theatre, Aussies and Tommies all saving the day bearing cups of tea and those wonderful khaki shorts and socks. I have these turned over twice at the top in the photos. If I unroll them completely they come about two inches over my knee.

One never knows with "khaki" what one will get. I have seen a couple different ones listed at WPG; these are called "British khaki full hose knee socks for kilt or shorts." These have a fair amount of gold so I tried them first with an Irish National. They really pick up that saffron in the tartan. (please excuse the inner apron droop--photographing my own legs is not my forte.)

Next, a darker shade. Modern Gunn with the addition of red flashes. I quite like it.

So if you are looking for a decent pair of khaki hose in wool from a US company, these are a nice pick!
