Yes, the khaki works up into a smart-looking kilt, so you should be able to make a work-worthy one out of it. (I assume you mean inside work?) It's like the fabric on an original or Mocker UK, if you are familiar with those.
Hm, I washed and dried the bull denim hard twice before cutting and sewing--nope, haven't noticed much shrinkage after. But the 9-ounce is soft and rather loosely woven compared to the twill. It feels and acts exactly like the fabric in my tan Amerikilt. Quite comfortable but definitely needs a bit of stiffening--I stitched the pleats inside and out and ran double rows of stitching on apron edges. Sewing is a little trickier because it is so soft it will catch on the foot or bunch up every so often so take care.
It still likes to wrinkle but is so comfortable. To wash I put it in a "delicates" mesh bag, I also have a front-loading washer with no agitator fins to rip up the pleats. Hang to dry, then throw in the dryer for just a couple of minutes at the end to tumble out the drying wrinkles. If this doesn't work I might devote 30-60 seconds to touching it up with an iron.
I got it to make an "around the house and garden" kilt and run errands in (similar to the AK) and it works well. I haven't made anyone else a kilt out of it as I don't want them to be disappointed with the wrinkly factor. It probably wouldn't suit your needs for a work kilt as well as the twill.
I'll bet the heavier bull denim is great but needs a pretty strong machine to stitch in some areas. I'll have to get a sample next time I order.
I would send a photo but my camera/computer interface is acting up.
