i know their are quite a few scots and irishmen here and i wanted to ask:

what if you saw a tourist say a yank or canuck with a kilt on, would you take it as offensive or be appreciative that one with scottish/irish ancestory is proud of it and finally seeing his ancestors' homeland?

I plan on visiting scotland for a family gathering that is suppose to happen and i dont want to look like a total mess.

thanks

You have as much "right" to wear the kilt as anyone.Having said that it may help for you to understand how the Scots(generally speaking)view anyone wearing the Kilt.Firstly, they will say nothing, the silence will be deafening,if you are wearing the kilt well it will be appreciated,if you are wearing it badly a mental note of scorn will be made. You dont have to be a tourist for those observations to be made,I can assure you.

We too have a branch of the ill-mannered,ignorant and frankly wholely unwanted "kilt police".Thankfully they are few in number, however, and like the the rest of that sad bunch of ill-informed loud mouths the world over, they should be ignored.

I hope you have a great time over here.
