I noticed this will be post number 2000 for me. I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has made and continues to make X Marks such an enjoyable, informative, and friendly place to spend time. I have learned so much about kilting and heritage, and feel as though I have made many friends; some in the flesh and some just through this forum, but hopefully many more to be met in person someday.

My thanks to Hank for providing this space where all of us can share our kilt experiences, for the moderators and chairmen who keep this an upbeat, wholesome, yet intellectually stimulating site, and to all of you members out there who contribute your thoughts and experiences so that we can all grow in our addictions.

Now for the vignette:

I was at the post office today just before it opened to mail out a sporran. Wearing my SWK Lamont and casually dressed. I thought I'd use the automatic machine rather than wait for the counter to open. A lady ahead of me was having trouble with the machine and gave up in frustration (turns out it didn't work for me either). I said, "Well, looks like it's not your day so far", to which she replied "No, you've already made my day by wearing that kilt!". We got to talking and she said her son always worshipped his older sister and wanted to wear dresses like she does, to which Mom said no. Then he saw on TV a show about Scotland and men wearing kilts and said "look Mom, those men are wearing dresses, and it's OK." What could she do then? So she bought him a kilt and she said that's all he wore for a year. Mind you this was at the ripe old age of 3. He now wears kilts all the time. He's 8 years old and in public school. The first day he entered his school the boys were on him like foam on beer teasing him for wearing a dress. He just said "it's a kilt, and men wear them in Scotland", and that was that as far as he was concerned. What a story!. I had to tell her about the SWK children's kilts, and I told her about X-Marks too. Hopefully we'll see her (or him) around here one of these days.

Slainte math to all X-Markers.
