A review of my first real non-traditional.
Ok so as a wearer of only traditional style kilts I decided it was time to take the plunge and find out what all the fuss was about when it came to real non-traditionals. The question was what to order...a Utilikilt, Amerikilt, maybe a hemp kilt? Hmmm, what to choose, what to choose...but choose I did and my review is below.
So what did I choose? I decided I couldn't go all new age etc. (I do have a reputation as a snob to keep up remember). So I chose to get my kilt in a traditional tartan. I ordered a Black Watch 1 1/2 yarder from MacPenny's. It's a poly (with a nice soft hand) and has their standard sporran pocket. It has velcro fasteners.
The length is a tad shorter than I am used to, but of course I need to keep reminding myself that it is meant to be worn much lower than my traditional kilts. It is of course hemmed which is noticeable because of the thickness of the material. Given the cost I can understand that they wouldn't use a material with a selvedge edge. It's quite comfortable, much lighter than my tanks, but of course as many of us have experienced the under apron is a bit short. This has been something I have heard in other reviews of non-traditionals so I didn't find it surprising.
All-in-all very comfortable and well worth the $14.99 investment. Pictures to come later.
