You'll do fine. My first time at school with a kilt, I had to sit in the faculty parking lot an extra 10 mins saying to myself, "I can do this." It's a first time thing. You become very aware of all of the sets of eyes watching you. You hear all of the comments both good and bad, though whispered after you pass someone in the hall. It is VERY un- Macho for a Latino youth to look how you are going to dress today, they will snicker and point and make jokes,BUT don't let it get to you.
I take extra time getting ready for the day, when I'm going to wear my kilt to school. I make sure that all is in order. My shirts are ironed, my hose are staight, my shoes are shined, everything is neat. I actually dress nicer when wearing the kilt than without it. I'm proud to be wearing the kilt as you are.
I'll be wearing my Irish National today also. It is a way to celebrate our heritage and doubly so by wearing our kilt. I'll be with you as you sit in the faculty parking an extra 10 mins. thinking to yourself, "I can do this." Do the things that you normally do and explain the kilt, the tartan, and your reason(s) for wearing it today. Be proud because we/ I am proud of you for taking that step. Brother's in kilt and teaching!
