On Thursday April 3rd, 2008 the CN Tower was the venue for this year's Tartan Day and the Scottish Studies Foundation
16th Annual Scot of the Year Award Presentation, this years recipient was Donald Stewart Chief Executive Officer
Sun Life Financial Services of Canada Inc. Scottish Government Minister Linda Fabiani, MSP, Minister for Europe,
External Affairs and Culture who will presented the Scottish Studies Society's 16th annual 'Scot of the Year' in Canada award.

There were two different bands, Caledon, Scotland's Tenors and the all-female trio Scotlandia,
also there was a piper out front of the tower, they were all outstanding musicians and the event would not have been the same without them.
I went and met David there it was a fun night and it was interesting to see how many poiticians and dignataries from both countries were present
including Miss Fabiani also present was Robert Winter the Lord Provost of Glasgow, from Canada the right honourable Donald MacDonald was in attendance, in full highland kit,
as well there were Clan Chiefs from Clans Fraiser and Ross at the event.

Unlike previous Tartan Day Dinners there was no entrance fee so in lieu of this they set an
objective of raising $15,000 during the evening to support the Foundation in the funding of the
Chair of Scottish Studies at the University of Guelph, the acquisition of significant materials
for their library and bursaries for Canadian students studying in Scotland. I am glad to report that
at last count there was $50,000 raised and I for one was happy to play a small part in such a success.
