That's not a dumb question, I get asked that all the time.
It's where they hit.
In fact, if the stone rolls a LOT (same with WFD to a lesser degree) then you threw it too low. People think that 45 degrees is the optimal release angle, and it might be in stones, but it's sure not in hammer. It's probably ten degrees higher than that....hang time COUNTS. If you throw it high, the implement will come more-or-less kind-of straight down, and won't roll so much.
