I just thought I'd share with everyone. I picked up a purse from a thrift store last week and cut it apart for the leather. Well lastnight I sat down and made a sporran for the first time. The actual sporran part is a single piece of leather stitched together from the inside... I've never worked with leather or hand stitched anything ever... so it was a struggle at parts. I worked on it from 7:30pm---3:15am. It's not great, and I'm going to have to restitch the belt loop to be stronger, but for a first shot (and an experiment) it's not too bad. I'm including some pictures so you have an idea of what it looks like--that's the whole point right? :-)
I'd appreciate some comments and critique. Keep in mind, I haven't done this before and I won't get better if you don't help me out with better ways to do things... things I've done right and wrong.

The purse...
Then the purse taken apart...
Cut and sewn the single piece of leather taken from the purse...
Flipped right side out...
With the flap closed...
And the final photo.
I think I will stuff the bottom in a little bit. Not everything is really straight on it unfortunately. I didn't measure anything. I cut patterns in notebook paper for symmetry. But hey... I could have done worse right?
