Hello from Fresno
Hello from Fresno, by way of Albuquerque and Tucson.
I've wanted to get into a kilt for years, but just hadn't made it happen until recently. This spring the family and I were at a Festival in AZ, I noticed someone wearing a Utilikilt. I really dug it. When I got back to Fresno, I learned that a buddy of mine has ordered one to small for himself. I tried it on, to big for me, but it really lit a fire. My bride was put off by the cost of the UK, and I told her that I could make one similar, for far less. The challenge was on. After much research, and trying to find "The art of kiltmaking" in town proved pointless; I found what I think are Allan's instructions on this site. After downloading and reading them several times, I found the material I wanted, a green rip-stop, lightweight, material for only a dollar a yard. I bought 8 yards and figured if I screwed up, I wasn't really out anything. The material matches some BDU's I have for work. With some hours in the evening during the week, and a little over this weekend, I finished it today. Just haven't decided on the cargo-pockets.
Thanks for a great site that encourages kilt wearing and great instructions on how to DIY.
