Can anyone else recommend any books that have a good storyline to them?

I highly recommend the Jacobite Trilogy by D.K. Broster. It includes "The Flight of the Heron", "The Gleam in the North" and "The Dark Mile". This series is set before, during and after the '45. In style, I would place them somewhere between the Tranter and Gabaldon books. They are fiction, set in history, but without the science fiction aspects of the DG books. They were written in the 1920's, so the style is quite different from the more modern novels. Yes, there is romance too, but not the bare-chested kind! I'd say if you like the Tranter or Gabaldon books, you'd probably like the Broster series as well.
