    A day abroad

Ok rabble, first an admission.... I have been wearing p@@nts for over a week now and I have left the kilts smoldering in the closet (much of this due to not feeling real well and not wanting to risk a sudden acid bath on my kilts). So last evening, the wife mentions that she had not seen me in on for a while and would I "PLEASE" wear one tomorrow.

Ugh, I think to myself, I am just getting over this and she wants me to wear the kilt... Oh well, the sacrifices I make for the one I love. As my last couple of posts have shown, I am not abject to wearing a little color with my kilt (see here and here).

However, today, I just wanted to blend in the scenery as much as possible an put this outfit together...

Now, I should of known that this was problematic... As many have shared in this space, the kilt tends to get noticed. So, here is my day so far...

First thing this morning I head to the local store to get my shot of caffine (ever notice how all of my stories start this way??) and I run into my former pastor at the store. After an odd moment of silence on his part I say hello pastor, how are you? He responds with "of all the things in my life I did not expect to see, it was you wearing a kilt!" After a couple of minor question and a long time catching up, I start to head outside to my truck to go home. As I was exiting the store, a group of mid-teenage girls was just coming in (can you see where this is heading?) and one of them shrieks.... "LOOK!!! A Kilt!" This causes the group of 8-10 girls to crowd around and ask about it. As I was standing there with a coffee for my bride in one hand and a large diet Coke in the other I would up giving an impromptu history lesson on the kilt and it's sundry items. By the time I was done, there was about 25 people standing around all with different questions. It was a good thing I was not in a hurry today.

Later in the day the wife and I headed to a local bar-b-que joint for a little bit of lunch (Dickies... MMM, MMM!). Upon arrival, the entire place came to a stand still and there was a loud gasp from the guy behind the counter. No one said anything initially, but there were a lot of stares and whispering.

As my wife and I were enjoying our sandwiches, a young lassie approached me and told me that she had been elected by the staff to ask why I was wearing a kilt. I explained that today was Friday. After a moment's confusion, her face lit up and she said.... Ah, I understand. Then she dropped the big one.... "All of the girls want to know if your single" I dang near choked on my coke! My wife turned to the young lady and smiled stating "Why yes he is! And I am the lucky woman!"

After the exchange the manager of the store came up and chatted with us for a while and when it was all over gave us a coupon to the store for 2 free meals on out next visit for being such good sports. His final comment was, "the coupon is only good if your wearing the kilt!"

Man, what a day so far.... I am looking forward to this evening when the wife and I go to dinner and the movies... Who knows what will happen next?

"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon
