Today marked another milestone in my kilting life One that many of you have experienced yourself, but it was a first for me. You see, I woke up this morning with a migraine and decided NOT to don the kilt. I even had it all laid out last night so it was easy to strap on this morning, but I just didn't feel like wearing it... (I know... Sacrilege!)

So, after an hour or so of being awake the beast in me forces me to our local convenience store for its daily fix of caffeine. As I was standing at the counter putting the lid on my drink and my wife's coffee a gentleman approaches and asks "Are you not playing today?" Now as I have stated, I have not yet had my caffeine, so this question confuses me for a moment. The gentleman mistaking my confusion reminds me that I see him every morning, but normally he is wearing a police officers uniform. Now I recognize him and I let him know that I am confused by his question, he again states "My buddies and I see you in here all the time in the kilt and we assume that your playing your bagpipes quite a bit." Now I get to smile and let him know that I do not play the pipes, I just enjoy wearing the kilt.

Now it is his turn to be confused.... After pondering my response for a bit, he asks the long awaited for question.... "WHY??!!"

To which (thanks to many months of reading this forum) I am able to respond..... (wait for it)

"You're a police office, so you should be able to understand this. After 45 years of confinement, my boys have finally made parole!"

His face turns about 10 shades of red, he sputters and spits and then finally a huge smile crosses his face. As he turns to leave he says "That is so wrong..... FUNNY, but wrong!"

So, now I have become recognized when not wearing the kilt when folks have come to expect it. What a great day!
