Dear Group: I am going to attempt to make a dress sporran and am posting some questions to those of the group experienced in such activity. I have a calf skin dress sporran right now I'm using as a design, it measures 9 inches high by about 7.5 inches wide. I will be using skills I have acquired in life some of which haven't been used in 40+ years; but I'm confident I can be successful. (1) What is the largest dimensions that resonably exist for sporrans. This one is a bit cramped and I would, within reason, like to expand the volume. I'm 6' and weigh about 290, I'm a little more porky than when I was younger. I mention this to suggest that my frame would probably handle a larger sporran. (2)Are cantles made in different sizes? I would have no difficulty making the cantle including casting if necessary, I'm considering pewter. (3)I have an older mink coat here to use for the fur. I also have an old seal skin vest in good condition which I can use for the fur. Any forseen problems here? I am familiar with leather crafting. I was going to line the inside with elk suede unless the experienced would recommend otherwise. (4)Does the sporran tops secure the same (as per a snap on the backside of the sporran) on ALL sporrans or are there alternate latching systems? I expect to start this sometime in September and I am trying to assemble all the material and answer the questions that jump out initially. I will post additional questions as necssary as the project progresses and try to post pictures along the way. Thanks, Gene
