I have really appreciated Jock Scot's opinions on highland attire here on XMTS. He has brought an insight into what constitutes authentic Scottish apparel. I was very interested in his recent comments about hats and what is really worn with kilts in Scotland. Setting aside my balmorals and glengarry for a moment I wanted to find something authentic and practical.
I already have a tweed deerstalker but the gray color clashes with my greenish tweed kilt jacket. Heading down to my local Hat Shop The Mad Hattress

I had hoped to pick up a brown deerstalker but they didn't have my size. Then I saw a "Wool Herringbone Gaffer Trilby" hat by a company called Kangol. It was $45 seemed to fit exactly what Jock Scot said was often worn by Highland Scots nowadays.
The hat is soft and crush-able. I choose the olive color and it seems to blend well with the jacket. It is a wool blend with a polyester liner and seems durable and well made.
Here are the pictures
By the by, I'm not shortening my crook anymore Jock!
Perfecting my Highlander at rest pose
Cheers Jock! (Arlen: note my spiffy whisky glass)
Wearing it about today I am very pleased with it and will look at other products by Kangol
So what does the rabble (and Jock Scot himself) think?
Cheers
Jamie
