The base tartan of many of the hunting tartans and much like the Mackenzie have added additional stripes. The hose that you spoke of would go well for that reason. I have a Hunting Robertson and wear an Argyll hose with out the white stripe and they look very nice. I am however looking at the same National Scot hose to get a bit closer to my tartan.
