And yes, good eyes. That is a mermaid kilt pin. Picked it up on ebay. Not too heavy at all. I wore it to my recent kilt night and one of the waitresses went crazy over it. Apparently she has a thing about mermaids.

Very nice Christmas present! My wife went off to her knitting shop and actually found the pattern for that Aran sweater! So, it may not be this year, but there's one in the future for me. Not only that, she found out that the knitting shop has a Scottish lady who will be teaching a class on knitting socks. I feel some kilt hose coming up.
