Complete Post-War 79th NY Uniform
This is the post war, 1872 uniform of the 79th New York Highlanders.
They changed everything about their uniform. Going from black leather belts to white cotton cross belts, new sporran, altered tartan, (Cameron of Erracht Modern to Cameron of Erracht Ancient) new jacket, glengarry, hose, breast plate and buckle added, new shoes with new leggings, eppauletts, and so on.

And this is what it looks like when worn

So why did they change? They had to conform with the newly reformed uniform regulations of the national guard system that was replacing the militia system. Its neat that the jacket was a simple 1872 artillery jacket with a sporran cut out.
