    Kilted Softball - Wallace Style!!!

I just wrapped up 3 days of non-stop softball, beer drinkin', girl watchin' and kilt wearin' at our company picnic. My Green Team all sported the kilts (Black Watch tartan) on Day #2 with excellent results - we won both games that day kilted.

Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle rather severely (and it's STILL swollen) on the first day, so I was unable to play any games kilted that day . I was, however, able to coach 3rd base for all our games and of course, answer the usual questions from the spectators. No problem.....

Now before any goes crazy, I am very well aware of where the flashes are supposed to be worn. However, in tribute to one of our top players (a man we so humbly refer to as UGWA - named after the former pro wrestler The Ultimate Warrior) the team decided it best to wear them on our forearms. We also paid tribute to the ferociousness and tenacity of one William Wallace - hence the painted faces. I wish I had some closer up pics of some of the guys paint jobs because they were downright hysterical....

Now playing softball is actually pretty darn easy in a kilt. Tons of freedom to run and hampers play in no way. However, for those wishing to try it, I highly suggest not wearing a belt or a sporran if you wish to be competitve or slide into a base. I'm not saying it hurts, but it will shred up a sporran pretty quickly!

And since I was on Injured Reserve for the day and didn't get to play, I was also the lucky one to be regimented ! Can you guess which one I am?????

But I think the best part of the whole kilted softball experience was all the great comments we all got. This was the first time for any of the guys on my team to be kilted and 85% of them LOVED IT! So, it goes without saying that we will be doing it again next year. And what was really satisfying to see was half the guys wearing them for the rest of the day. A couple said they would be getting another one soon. My only regret is that I didn't get to go 9 innings with the boys in mine, but I'm sure we'll resolve that soon. All in all, a great 3 day weekend for the kilted if I do say so myself!
