Fri eve we took of again with another birdwatching club to the forestry .... to see woodland species ... some more nightjars and woodcock.
It was a beautiful evening as we all started to gather at 8pm

Then we headed off on a 45min walk to an open glade in the forest

En route passed some Common Spotted Orchids

We eventually got the the glade having seen several wood warbler and a lesser spotted woodpecker

We set up and just waited

Several woodcock flew overhead and around the treetops on their evening 'roding' flights and making a croaking sound as they do.
Then at about 9.45pm the calls of several nightjars 'churring' started from where the camera is pointing here. We were lucky to see two out hunting for moths once the sun started going down fast.

It got darker and we stayed until it was black ... then we put our torches and headlites on and hit another track and path back to the cars. Several Tawny Owls were calling and one Little Owl.

It was well gone 11pm by the time we got back to the cars .. so our end of eve pint went out the window ... but it was still a fab night
