Weasel asked for the tying instructions for a "Jock Scott" fishing fly.So here are the "Classic" instructions.I hasten to add that not many flies are tied this way these days and there are hair wing variations that fly tyer's have adapted from the original. Ok here we are:-
Jock Scott "Classic"
Tag: Oval silver tinsel.
Tip: Yellow floss.
Tail:Golden pheasant.
Butt: Black ostrich.
Ribbing: Oval silver tinsel
Body, rear half: Yellow floss, followed by second butt of black ostrich herl.
front half: Black floss.
Hackle: Palmer front half of body with soft black hackle.
Throat: Guinea hen hackle.
Under wing: White tip turkey tail with black base.
Over wing,bottom to top: yellow swan or turkey, peacock, red macaw, blue swan or turkey, dark mottled turkey, blue macaw, bustard (we now use brown peacock wing feather), golden pheasant tail, peacock herl, grey and bronze mallard.
Topping: Golden pheasant.
Shoulder: Jungle cock.
Cheek: Blue king fisher(we use jay wing)
Horns: Blue and yellow macaw.
Head: Black silk'
