DIY Buckle Brogues
I have just made a pair of buckle brogues - it was easy and cheap. I had a pair of slip on patent leather shoes. I found a pair of silver buckles on Ebay (sterling silver and under $20). I went with fairly small, oval shaped buckles as the 2 inch square jobs are a bit too "pirate" to me. I also bought a cheap patent leather belt to fit through the buckles.
I took it along to a friendly bootmaker and it was a simple job for him to cut the belt to make straps (latchets?) and attach the straps and buckles to the shoes.
I am very pleased with the result. Unfortunately I can't post a picture yet as I am a newbie to the forum but will do so when I am able.
The shoes do not have the upper ankle strap which "real" buckle brogues I have seen do. To my eye at least that makes them preferable as it avoids any hint of the "little girls shoe" look.
