I have worn shorts to work during the summer for years now. Last Friday, the corporation which employs me for my day job advised us that shorts would no longer be considered appropriate attire for the job, effective today. This was despite the fact that we have no direct customer contact.....plus the fact that they did so for a week predicted to be about 90F.

When they gave us the list of what would be considered appropriate and what would not, I had learned enough from reading of the experiences of other guys here to know what to look for.

First, skirts were listed as appropriate. Second, there was nothing about reference to gender.

So guess what I decided to wear to work today? You got it, it's my first time ever kilted on the job! The response among coworkers has been overwhelmingly positive. One woman even said "thank you."

After lunch, I took my constitutional around my area of midtown Manhattan. I noticed a few people watching me, but nothing much of any reactions, except for one African-American woman handing out flyers, who, upon seeing me, started doing an Irish jig. A group of people were passing me by, and as they reached me, I could hear one man in the group say to the others, "he's wearing a kilt." I wonder who he meant.

The one surprise to me in this is that suddenly my female coworkers are all complimenting me on my legs. These are the same legs that have been on display for the past two months in shorts.
