I for one like my kilts and there's so much you can do while building gates and rails that would ruin a good kilt......take a look in my dresser drawer and you'll see my clothes with the gaping burn holes.
With that said.....Kilts and blacksmithing are 2 things I have a great fondness for, so too bad he's down there in Texas instead of Oregon as this blacksmith/welder would love to work with him :-)
He probably wears a smithy's apron to protect the kilt.
