Thumbs up XMTS tartan Skye Highland Outfitters Hose Review

    Greeting All,

Some months back Josh (NorCalPiper) offered a deal to members of XMTS for those looking for a pair of custom made tartan argyll hose to match the beautiful XMTS tartan.

I started saving my pennies (literally I put my spare change away each week in a tin until I had saved enough).

Along with a few others on the forum we met the minimum order and began to patiently wait for our hose.

I can assure you that these hose were well worth saving for and waiting for!

Josh gave us a sneak peak at them before shipping

But this picture didn't do them justice at all

I have never worn a pair of custom hose and I can't tell you how delightful it is to wear a sock that fits your foot absolutely perfectly! The wool is heavy and the hose are substantial and well made.

I have heard a few horror stories about expensive argyll hose being thin and not lasting, but these seem to be as well made and durable (if not more so) than the three pairs of Lewis hose I own.

Unfortunately the temperatures have been very high here in California for the last few days and the thought of wearing such thick all wool hose wasn't an appealing one, especially with the outfit I specifically bought these for.

Today the weather was far milder and I had the opportunity to take a few photos.

Here is how nicely the Skye Highland Outfitter hose match the XMTS tartan (this tartan is from the 16 oz. run in 2008).

The traditional garter ties are from Matt Newsome at the Scottish Tartans Museum and I think they just go wonderfully with these hose.

And here is the rest of the outfit...

Ever since I got my Sherrifmuir doublet I felt that I was missing just someone for my white tie outfit.

These hose were that missing something

I apologize for the stern expression, there is just something about this ensemble that makes me want to say...

Custom Argyll hose are certainly pricey compared to regular kilt hose which you can get for about $24, but I think that it really improves evening highland attire. Not to mention the comfort of made to measure hose!

I would like to say to Josh that I am very impressed with his product and would heartily recommend Skye Highland Outfitters Argyll hose

Josh's company has a website that can be forund here

    Cheers
