Week five was fast fun and at times very boring. We started off with report writing and interviewing witnesses then we were briefed on Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMD) and other nesting things.
Tuesday morning Defensive Tactics Physical Training, Ground Fighting.
Wednesday we spent the entire day at the shotgun and M4 range. However, the best day was Friday when we were all sprayed with Oleoresin Capsicum (OC). I was an OC virgin and therefore I was allowed to go third. It hurt like an SOB but I managed to maintain my composure, control my breathing and see as well as react and counter all the tasks that we were required to perform. I was told by my classmates that I did NOT act like an OC virgin which made me happy.
Mr. Zalatan gave us a class in the morning about OC and what we could expect and then we were briefed by Mr. Boon after lunch on what was expected of us to negotiate the six stations.
Station One we had to turn and face Mr. Boon as he sprayed us with OC, draw our weapon and rapidly flicker your eyes and using a command voice maneuver around the threat. Notice how I have both hands securely on my Blue Gun and am looking directly at my threat. Some people held out their weak hand as if they were trying to push or feel for the threat.
Station Two we had to face away from the threat as they tried to grab our weapons.
Station three we had to use the police baton and deliver baton jabs to the dummy.
What a nice orange OC pattern on my forehead.
Station four we had to fight off two attackers and get them into a line.
Station Five was the baton strike against an attacking opponent.
Station six we had to react to a punch and take the suspect to the ground and simulate handcuffing. I ended up breaking the foam baton as I delivered my controlled blows to the suspect.
After all that we were allowed to be decontaminated. After washing out our eyes with baby shampoo and cold water we were aloud to change into our sweats and t-shirts and watch our performance on video and be critiqued and commended on our performance. Needles to say there was laughter and funny voiceovers during the video. As of 11:30 Saturday my left eye is still sore and the tear ducts are working to cleanse the eye.
