'The Macallan' Scotch Tasting
Well, we just got back from enjoying the "Celebrate The Macallan" tasting event in downtown Houston. It was a very nice event, and I'm not just saying that because of the free whisky!
The tasting was hosted by Jay Liddell, Macallan's 'ambassador' for this region, and he did a great job of giving an overview of single malts, a virtual tour of the distillery, process, and the Speyside area, as well as introducing the crowd to the night's various offerings.
We sampled:
Fine Oak,
10-year old
15-year old
17-year old
18-year old
And
Sherry Oak
12-year old
Our table of 4 agreed that the 18 year had a great taste, (I liked it with a drop of water) but was not our favorite. We all liked the 12 and 15 year old the best. I personally found the 12 year Sherry Oak to be my favorite, quite drinkable with a nice rich wood and sherry note.
At 50 bucks per bottle for the 12yr, I'm not that likely to run out and buy some, but I think I shall have to seek out more Speyside whiskys.
We didn't get many photos, but here's our tall host Jay Liddell thanking me for "bringing some authenticity" to the tasting. Out of the 100 or so folks I was (as usual) the only one kilted. But it was well recieved, I got a extra dram of the 12 year, and got to keep the glass
