I have several coats which I could wear depending on the weather and the event. One is a custom made Inverness Cape in heavy tweed I bought online at Twin Roses Design that covers down to my ankles, so it completely covers my kilts. I have a couple dress greatcoats which would cover down to about knee length---grey and black---which might let a little bit of the bottom of the kilt show as I walk. And then I just recently bought what we used to call a "car coat", basically like a navy pea coat but this one in grey and with a single row of buttons instead of the double breasted---it covers down just below the bottom of my buttocks, so would allow a good foot or so of my kilts show from beneathe the hem. All look good. although I have no pictures to show or post right now. For real casual I even sometimes wear a softshell jacket that is just a bit longer than an Ike style jacket, zip up the front and gathered in a bit at the waist with a stretch band, that would generally cover my belt but not my sporran or much else of my kilt.
