Apropos a recent discussion vis-a-vis Scottish versus Scotch, it is my sad duty to dispel a commonly held misconception that Scotch Eggs have anything to do with Scotland. Apparently they were originally invented by a well-known London emporium by the name of Fortnum & Mason and the "Scotch" in the name refers specifically to the sausage meat & breadcrumb coating and not to any association with Scotland, real or imagined. So there - another illusion shattered.
