    Muted MacPherson casual by B&S

Happy New Kilt Day! My new 16oz casual kilt from Burnett's & Struth arrived today. This is my third kilt, but the first made of wool and with a traditional waist height. And I have to say that the additional rise will take some getting used to. Enough talk, on to the pics!

I broke out the waistcoat for the photo shoot...

I went for the muted MacPherson to have a slightly less RED tartan. It's not orange like the ancient version and the blue is and interesting green-grey tone. The woman I spoke with at B&S picked the charcoal grey hose to go with the kilt and I thank her for her choice. Looking at the swatch from their website I thought lovat blue would have worked, but now I'm not so sure. I skipped the flashes for today because I really don't know what color to go with (not that I have many options right now).

I made sure to have them pleat the kilt to the sett. I'd seen some other MacPherson tartans kilted to the stripe and didn't like the look.

    And the obligatory pleat shot.

When I can bring myself to take the kilt back off I'll get around to measuring exactly how much material went into this "4 yard" casual kilt. The 16oz material is far thinner than I expected. I think I need to do some more research on what the real difference between 11, 13 and 16oz fabrics is. As I said before, the higher rise will take me sometime to get used to. I'm not sure what belt to wear with the kilt (hence why I put the waistcoat on). I have a standard 2.25" kilt belt as well as a more narrow 1.5" belt, but neither really did it for me. Regardless of my adjustments to this style of kilt, it is a beautifully made piece of clothing that I am proud to wear. I can't see needing a tank if I have this kilt. (I know, I know...just wait, right?)

As always, I look forward to the comments and catcalls from the rabble.

    yers aye,
    -Eric-
