Scotch !
Tonight I am going to an Irish pub and I plan on trying some scotch that I have never had. I've always been a scotch drinker...even in college when everyone else was barfing on cherry vodka and cheap Kentucky whiskey.
Of course then...I drank the best I could afford...which was cheap stuff.
Then one day... a very cruel person introduced me to a fine scotch. He said.. "I warn you now...once you have this...there will be no turning back".
Yea yea yea..... pour it up ya Mic! I know my scotch! This is only single malt! I have had scotch that has..... many malts in it before!
The pour.
The look.
The smell.
The anticipation.
Here we go... just a sip... a small sip..... let it soak into ye tongue.
A bit of a swirl.... not too much... allow it to be absorbed onto the walls of your mouth.
Now....gently swallow.... open your mouth and breath in slowly.
OH MY GOD ! !
THAT'S what scotch is supposed to taste like?! I was in love and the Mic was rrrright... I could never poison my body with cheap scotch ever again.
That was merely Glenfiddich 18 but it was finer than any scotch I had ever had. And it had me hooked! The cruel Mic might have well turned me onto crack... it may have been cheaper!
I have come to learn that no scotch is for every man and the price isn't always a good tell-tale sign of whether you will like it or not. I've had some expensive 20 year scotch (over $150 US per 750ml) and really hated it and had some excellent 12 year old $75 per 750ml. One of my favorite blended is Pinch 15, or better known as Dimple in the US for about $55US per 750ml. It is a great blended scotch! Johnny Walker Blue for about $230US I didn't find as good as Gold for half the price.
Single malts.... I'm very picky with these for some reason. That's why I'm on this quest tonight. I like Balvenie 21 but I really want to expand my scotches.
Tonight... I am searching for some Highland Park 18. THAT is me goal for the night. I have a hotel rented and all pubs are within 6 blocks of my restaurant and the comedy theater I am attending. I want to find 3 new scotches.
THIS is me goal, my friends. Wish me luck !
I plan on giving a full report when I crawl home tomorrow.
Please list in this thread your favorite scotch and the approximate cost. Describe it as best ye can.... and perhaps rank your top 3.
