There's a link to video showing the kilted competitors of the Mountaineer snowshoe race.
I've quoted the story's text below.
Kilt-wearing competitors took on a grueling challenge at the Badger State Games. Athletes headed to Nine Mile in Wausau for 'The Mountaineer'. That's a 6.2 mile race with long snowshoes and 15 extra pounds on their back.

Some people pack the pounds in vests others add them to a back pack. "I had some weight sewn into some material, my wife did that. Then I took it to a shoe shop and they sewed that into the pack. So it stays tight to my back and doesn't bounce," says racer Dave Sykora from Green Bay.

The Mountaineer is so difficult, only a few people took on the feat. The mountaineers strapped on their packs and lined up with the regular 10k racers. They say it takes them just over an hour to cross the finish line.
