O.K. Day 2 of Jockin' the Bonnet. Bonnet full of rocks soaked overnight in cold water. This a.m., drained the water, removed bonnet and rocks. Wrung out the bonnet, beat up, abused bonnet like a rented mule. Even trod on it in getting excess moisture out. Put rocks back in the bonnet, and hung it on the fence, out of any direct sunlight for the first drying.
"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.
