So, I recently received a balmoral bonnet from GlengarryHats.com that is inspired by that worn in WW1 by the Canadian Highland forces (see image here: WW1 Canadian Balmoral Hat).
While the hat size was correct & I loved the colour, I was greatly disappointed in the circumference of the crown. I was expecting the larger more traditional balmoral, and instead it was more like a standard army beret with a tourie & ribbons attached. Needless to say I'm planning on sending it back for a refund(unless someone wants to purchase it for the price paid
).
Anyhow, to cut to the chase.
I would still like to have a balmoral based upon the CEF version worn in WW1:
in the British military khaki-brown colour w/ black silk trim & tail ribbons (no need for cockade, I'll make my own):
My question:
does anyone know where I can have one made (that won't break the bank, I'm on a limited budget); or does anyone know where I can get enough of this khaki-brown wool & the instructions for making a Robert Mackie -styled balmoral? (...not handknit)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
