Oh, what a sharp pair of eyes you have, Anne! (But, sorry that the pleating style bothers you.)
I don't have a problem with non-traditional styles, especially if they are functional and also looks good.
Has anyone ever seen such a kilt elsewhere on the web, i.e., a reverse knife-pleated kilt? If not, then I put first dibs on it. LOL

That is when the kilt is viewed from the right side, as worn.
Easier to keep the pleats smooth when getting into a left hand drive car - but not the traditional way to turn them.
The kilt looks really sharp, very neat - love the pleat shot - but why that way round?
