On Good Friday five years ago, our 14-year old Cairn Terrier Jake went to chase squirrels with all the other dogs of our past, and our home just wasn't the same. Mary Ann and I were both terribly sad, (especially her) since Jake was "her boy", and we were left contemplating whether we were going to get another dog.

Well, to make a long story short, a year later Sophie came bouncing into our lives, and this little Westie has dug a HUGE hole in our hearts. This is Sophie on her first day in her new home...

...and discovering that her new home came "fully equipped.

While my wife and I were hoping that Sophie would be "Mommy's girl, for some reason she latched onto me, and for the past three years she's become my constant companion. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, Sophie wants to be a part of it. Its almost as though we know what each other's thinking, and I rarely have to even say anything to her.

I've always felt that a man is truly blessed if he can share his life with a loving and caring wife and that he's doubly blessed if he can have a good dog sometime during his life. I don't believe I can get any luckier.
