1): I've seen it said, meaing I've read, that original tartan was in effect a form of camouflage.
2): No one has brought up the possibility that the original author's first language is not English. His vocabulary might be limited for that reason, which would also explain the misspellings of whether/weather.
3): Nobody better call my kilt a skirt unless it's very obviously from a postion of ignorance or misspeaking, both of which I've encountered in a peaceful manner.
