I may have misunderstood; I thought two objections to the 'no sporran and leggings' look was that it was itself a) non-traditional, and b) an effeminate modern fashion and I wanted to illustrate how we have come round again to something which worn before but was obviously perfectly manly, then as now. I felt able to address those ideas because they are about Highland dress.
I now understand more clearly that some people are saying that the bad thing is that a rare prominent TV character who is wearing a kilt is himself effeminate and/or gay, because of the potential for viewers to associate that with the kilt itself. I am going to back carefully away from that idea because I understand that, as a kilt specific forum, our chosen subject of discussion is not the complete spectrum of life and I don't want to fuel a pointless argument.
Hi Nighthawk, yep the funny highlander costume is a parody, at least a tasteless joke at our expense, with overtones of racial slur. I don't think the Glee character is.
