"Nice sporran" is an incredible understatement.

Yep, those are real beautes! A few weeks ago, I sent Artificer a couple of brass cantles and he's making a couple of old style leather sporrans for me. I can hardly wait!

Got the sporran Saturday and it is even better than the pictures.

The big items are all in a row. There is plenty of room for carrying a wallet, phone, glasses and keys.

But the value is in the details and he nailed them. The tension on stiching is very even. The hide is well mounted. The edges are smooth. The red interior is a wonderful contrast.

Working with Artificer was great. We worked back and forth to get the design right. He was good at taking the idea and changing it into something that will work in the real world without loosing the dream.

Unfortunately I leave for the 2-weeks a year this weekend so the kilt wearing options will be minimal. Uniforms most of the time.

Indeed, that really is an awesome sporran! And I would never expect anything less from Scott.

Aye, that's so often the case. I only have three "R.R." bonnets, and Abigail made me one of them!

Thanks all, for the very kind words. Drac supplied the lovely pelt as a trade for turning part of it into this piece.

I thought that the broad "Forsythe" style flap would be conducive to the carving that Drac wanted. Since the constant roll and fold of a regimental style flap tends to soften the detail of intricate carving, the hinged "envelope" style top (in this case done in kidskin, like the gusset) relieves the flap of any flexing.

The body back and flap are double faced 3oz veg tan, laminated and stitched together. Two thin faces joined are actually much stronger than a single thickness of the same weight, as the top grain is much stronger than the split side. It also allows for a finished interior in something other than a lining leather.

The body front is 5oz and laminated to the Axis deer hide.

Should I get a chance to eventually make another sporran for myself that isn't a prototype, I'd love to use some of the rest of this pelt.
