Unexpected Kiltie
I work at one of the seemingly ubequitous 3-letter agencies (CIA, NSA, NRO, etc) in the intelligence community around Washington DC. Unfortunately, my company (yes, I'm a government consultant), insists on a jacket, and tie at work. No, they won't accept an argyle and a kilt, they just barely tolerant a sports coat and slacks instead of a suit. I have a picture of my wife and I at the Marine Corps Ball last year in my office. Of course I'm in my Tewksbury Leatherneck. The director of our division, a "C" level agency employee, Presidential appointee, confirmed by the Senate, walks by and stops. "Hey, nice outfit!" he says, pointing at the pic on the wall. "I like it" I say, "But my company won't let me wear it to work."
"Neither will mine, I should bring some pictures from Grandfather Mountain to show you my kit."
We chatted for a bit. He's also a Marine (ever notice how many kilt wearers in the US are Marines?). We're both going to wear our kilts to work next Tartan Day.

Let us know how it goes on Natl. Tartan Day next year. I wore mine at the federal agency where I work. I was the first person ever to do so. I did let everyone know ahead of time, and also indicated this was part of our anency's diversity program. My wife and I even put up a display in the lobby - the display actually took more coordination than wearing the kilt. I only got positive comments. One admiral actually asked where my sgian dubh was. I explained that I decided not to try to get it through building security. However, I've already gotten one with a plastic blade to wear next year!
