embedding an excel file within a post.
Hello All,
Does anybody know, is it possible to incorporate an XLSX file into one of these posts?
I have a small Excel file with a lot of information in it, that I would like to incorporate into a post. It would be so much easier to paste it in whole, rather than cutting and pasting and then re-formatting all the information.
So can it be done? I don't see an icon for it.
Regards
Chas

Chas,
I'm sorry but at this time there is no way to embed an operational excel file into a post.
You could of course convert your file to pdf or other graphic format and insert it just as you do a photo. It would not be changable within the post.

I'd likely use the printscreen function, and crop it with something like Paint. Then, it's like any other image.

I found the easiest way was to highlight the data; copy; past into Paint; and them save as a JPEG. This is the final outcome:
Thanks for the help, everyone.

If the Scribd BB code were enabled, it'd allow for a lot of data types to be embedded, including an Excel file: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=172292

The Module for scribed BB code is an aftermarket add-on to vBulletin and not an integral part of the software package.
It may be a very well written program.
We currently have 36 aftermarket modules attached to the forum that were added during another owner and administrator's terms. The vast majority of them have had to be disabled due to conflicts. Each time the forum is updated all the modules must be re-written manually. At one time just before I bought the forum it went off-line for four days due to a conflict with an add-on module.
Imagine for example, that anyone had the ability to upload and embed active files to the forum. There would be nothing stopping a spammer from embedding a virus or a trojan horse. The virus could infect the forum or even your home computer.
There could be embedded files that redirected a member clicking on it to be sent to a porn or viagra sales site.
There is no virus filter to vBulletin other than the diligence of the Moderators.
I see so many forums die due to the actions of spammers, that I'm sorry, as long as I am the owner, I cannot in good conscious take the chance of something like that happening to this forum.
