Non-descript tartan, made in Italy!

Just ordered 4.5 yards of this 100% wool tartan for use as a belted plaid ("great kilt"). It's listed as "coating weight" so it should have a decent heft. Nice earthy color, and the price is right!

I like the sales pitch of putting the inch-tape up against it. I wish more sellers would do that. Let us know how it turns out.

Sorry for taking this post a bit away. Do anybody know of "good" priced tartan in Europe. Locally I can't even get a poly/wool mix for such a low price.

I received the fabric a few days ago, and am pleased with it. "In person" it's a tad lighter in color than in the website pic - closer to a dark khaki or "coffee with cream" shade. The dark lines are dark brown, not black.

It is twill woven, but has a softer feel to it than the typical Scottish kilting tartan, and is slightly "fuzzier." Weight-wise, without actually putting it on a scale, I'd say it's around 13 oz. fabric.

It'll make a nice "great kilt" and would be fine for a earthy-colored regular kilt, too - though it does not have a "kilting selvedge", but rather the slightly fringed selvedge one finds on many wool fabrics....

EDIT: On my kitchen scale, this 5 yd piece weighs 4.75 lbs - whatever that means!

For extra "earthiness" you might want to full the fabric. Wash it hot and dry it in the dryer. It should fuzz up some (and will shrink some, too) and look more like homespun.
