First, a military style box pleated kilt is made using the same amount of material as a standard modern knife pleated kilt, i.e. approximately 8 yards for an average sized man.
That being said, it is possible to make either a knife or box pleated kilt out of seven, six, five, and as little as four yards of cloth.
If the fabric you have is double width (54" wide) then you have enough to make any style of kilt you like by cutting and joining the material.
If the fabric you have is single width (29" or so) then you only have enough for a lower yardage kilt.
