    Breezy time on the Waverley

With the good weather we are having just now in Glasgow, it is so good to wear the kilt, the good weather always motivates me to be kilted more often.
On Friday night at the local hostelry in Partick in the west end of the city, I enjoyed being kilted rather than in shorts like so many others.
On Saturday, I was on board the Waverley - the world's last ocean going paddle steamer still plying its trade up and down the sea lochs of the clyde estuary.
The weather was great and myself and another kilted friend felt that wearing the kilt on board was so appropriate and had quite a few comments from many of the passengers both Scottish and from abroad.
But as we all know its always a breezy time at sea and one had to be quite careful when walking at the front of the boat and climbing stairs -such is the fun of being on the high seas

I once worked my summer holidays as a galley slave on the Waverley, that was long before my kilted days!

Looks like you may be needed again Alex, you probably know that they are appealing for about £250,000 in order that the Waverley will sail again next summer. Apparently the cost of fuel which is about £5000 for every trip it takes down the clyde and the recent cold, wet summers that we have experienced have drained their coffers dry.
It would be a tragedy and a great loss not only to Scotland but also to Southern England where it also sails.

I was on the Waverley earlier a few weeks ago, going round the Kyles of Bute and into Loch Fyne with some friends who stay in Dumbarton, the weather that day was glorious and my friends although staying all their lives by the clyde had never been on the Waverley, commented as we went thru the Kyles that this was beauty at its best and they could have been anywhere in the world it was so warm and beautiful, this amazingly was on their own doorstep
