That looks like a good start - I like black and DPM too, though I have not combined them yet, but I think that you are not allowing enough ease - that is the inch or so added to allow the garment to lie over the body easily rather than being skin tight or even acting as a corset.

I use spray starch on my cotton kilts - spray and iron on the inside first, then pin or baste the pleats and press - it is a lot easier if the smoothing of the fabric and the pressing of the pleats are done separately.

Further photos are awaited with interest.

I am very impressed!!! How did you even think of doing that???

You've inspired me greatly... I have one X-Kilt in Denim [been procrastinating on pics, sorry guys], and an almost complete one in black twill.... but obviously have enough of both materials to make a second of each. My first two I didn't include pockets, as I thought they felt unnesseccary for my typical uses. I intended my second one in twill to likewise have no pickets, but the second denim one I make I intended to make cargo style.

Looking at what you've done I'm heading back to the drawing board before I make my next one, as you've given me some inspiration. I hate to steal a good idea, but I may just have to borrow from your idea on my next one [of course due credit given, I've been asked a few times if my X-Kilt is a Utlikilt, I always direct folks to check out this forum]

Glad you decided to jump into the pond . . . and congratulations on the marvellous needlework. Not my personal style, but very impressive!

I started using hem tape on several sections, but im not sure if thats the best route,
It's not the best route if you plan on washing or drying your kilt. It will harden up over time, lose it's holding power and possibly breakdown into a powdery residue. Commercial grade hem tape which is hard to get a hold of is better, but will eventually breakdown as well, but probably long after you stopped wearing it.

That kilt and a few others of the style can be seen on the Celtic Warrior Kilts website.

I think they lay in their color inserts with a close zigzag stitch over the raw edges. Hence the "white border" on the arctic camo inserts. Doesn't show so much on the solid color inserts where thread more closely matches the overall insert fabric color.
